Technology Sains: LAPTOP MSI GE62VR 6RF, Focus on Upscale Gaming

For those of you who travel a lot but still want to play AAA games, buying a gaming laptop is definitely the right choice. Fortunately, gaming laptops now have a much more qualified performance to play games even from previous generations.

Remember the MSI GS40 gaming laptop that we reviewed last year? At that time, GS40 powered by Intel Skylake processor and NVIDIA GeForce 970M graphics chip is capable of working very well and can play games with performance fast enough in high graphic detail.

However, the performance is not anything else when compared with the newly released MSI gaming laptop line. The MSI GE62VR 6RF laptop is an example. This laptop comes with a component that is one generation newer than GS40, even has a graphic chip that is cascaded one level below. Interestingly, this laptop actually has better gaming performance, almost twice as much.

The results of our tests did show MSI GE62VR 6RF does have a relatively very strong performance, rivaling even the middle-class desktop PC. This is because the laptop is powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics chip. Both are new components that are proven to provide significant performance improvement on this laptop.

In testing using 3DMark, this laptop managed to achieve performance of 9499 points, 3000 points higher than the MSI GS40. Of course, the increase in performance is quite large and make this laptop more attractive to have.

The same is true of game testing. MSI GE62VR 6RF is capable of playing Ghost Recon: Wildlands in high graphics settings at 1080p resolution and successfully runs on average at 55 fps. While games that have been released for quite a while like GTA V can run at 68 fps.

However, testing using PCMark shows the improvement of computing performance of this laptop is not much different from its predecessor. MSI GE62VR 6RF is only able to score 3317 points, or has a 100 point increase from the previous.

While on the battery, this laptop just more extravagant. When used with full performance without a WiFi connection, the MSI GE62VR 6RF only lasts 1.5 hours. Of course this is quite reasonable considering the graphics chip used is the desktop version.

Switching to the design side, MSI GE62VR 6RF is practically not much different from its predecessor. It still has a fairly thick size, but now has been equipped with modern facilities such as USB 3.1 Type-C port.

Another advantage possessed by this laptop is a keyboard that is very comfortable and can be programmed at will because it is compatible with SteelSeries Engine. In addition, this laptop also has two storage of SSD and HDD, so he can run fast and store data in large sizes.

Gaming laptop is like designed just for playing games. In addition to having low battery life, it also has a trackpad that is less convenient to use. The keyboard layout is also very designed for playing games because the Windows key is moved to the right side of the space bar.

For a gaming laptop, MSI GE62VR 6RF is quite satisfactory. This laptop can play all the heavy games that exist today and has a myriad of facilities to support gaming activities. On the other hand, this laptop is less able to display the performance of productivity well because the design is very focused to gaming.
